Bella Hadid Continues Her Vintage Fashion Reign In 1950s

Ask Bella Hadid what her favourite decade to sartorially reference is and you might be pleasantly surprised with the response.

While the supermodel’s off-duty style has become synonymous with the resurgence of Y2K fashion (read: hip-hugging, low rise pants and micro, barely-there skirts), the star has recently taken a step even furtherback in time, sporting ensembles that could be lifted from the pages of a vintage fashion magazine or runway.
From Bella’s 90s inspired Susamusa sets to her luxury vintage ensembles (read: her iconic 80s Chanel and Versace gowns she sported during the 2022 Cannes Film Festival), it seems that the star is dipping even further into the proverbial archives in her recent 1950s esque look.

Someone call Brigitte Bardot, because Bella has stolen her look.

Taking to the coastal city of Biarritz, Bella and her art director beau Marc Kalman brought the summer of love to the south of France. As Camille Charriere wrote on Bella’s Instagram post, the star makes Biarritz look hot.

Clearly taking inspiration from Saint Laurent’s highly sought-after cutout stretch satin jumpsuit from the luxury labels 60s infused SS/23 collection, Bella is delivering on her promise of a hot girl summer with this skin-tight silhouette.

While we’re unsure if this monochromatic moment is a jumpsuit, or rather an expertly paired two-piece set, Bella is making a case for capris and cut outs to make a comeback.

Of course, from the woman who pioneered the revival of some of the most gaudy early 2000s fashions, we’re not surprised by this move.

In true Bella fashion, the Kin Euphorics co-founder has taken inspiration from 1960s legends like Paloma Picasso, Jane Birkin and Betty Catroux for this effortlessly elegant ensemble.

Featuring a stretchy-satin finish, cut out detailing and a wide belt, this look is giving main character energy in the best way possible.

This American take on a classic French style is everything we wanted to see from Emily in Emily In Paris during her trip to Saint Tropez. But it seems Bella is more of a Camille than the beloved protagonist.

Completing her look was a pair of oval sunglasses (think Kurt Cobain’s clout goggles, but instantly more stylish) and a snakeskin kitten heel mules.

However, it wouldn’t be a Bella outfit without the presence of a Y2K trend in one form or another.

Here, the outfit’s pièce de résistance was a mustard coloured Miu Miu silk scarf.

Thankfully, this accessory was a little less ‘useless skinny scarf’ à la Ashley Tisdale and more Grace Kelly in To Catch A Thief.

With most of Australia’s east coast finding themselves in Europe, we have no doubt that replicating this outfit is only one trip to the thrift store away.

And for those of us bracing the harsh winter at home? We’ll be patiently waiting for the summer sun to take this look transcontinental.
